Goal 3: Describe the goals, competencies, and big ideas of the revised Social Studies curriculum

The artifact that I chose to reflect goal #3 (Describe the goals, competencies, and big ideas of the revised Social Studies curriculum) is from a lecture we had on July 7th in my EDCI 414 course. Goal 4: Design unit and lesson plans that combine curricular competencies and content in creative, thoughtful, and engaging ways

The artifact that I chose to reflect goal #4 (Design unit and lesson plans that combine curricular competencies and content in creative, thoughtful and engaging ways ) is from a unit I created in my EDCI 414 course. In this unit, I was able to explore the big idea of ‘Local actions have global consequences, and global actions have local consequences‘ from the grade 2 social studies curriculum. The concept of the unit was ‘Little changes have a big impact’ and environmental topics such as waste management, water conservation, transportation and more were involved. I have chosen the artifact from an activity I created for a lesson on waste managements where the topics of garbage, recycling and compost are discussed.

Goal 6: Outline the process of inquiry learning in Social Studies

The artifact that I chose to reflect goal #6 (Outline the process of inquiry learning in Social Studies) is from a guest lecture we had on July 8th with Kyra Keplin in my EDCI 414 course. In this lecture, Kyra was able to share with our class her experience of teaching using the Inquiry processes. During this lecture, we were able to conduct an inquiry based activity that I feel represents some of the pivotal components of Inquiry and which I wanted to share as the artifact for this goal.
