Goal 5: Apply strategies that support diverse learners and classrooms

The artifact that I chose to reflect goal #5 (Apply strategies that support diverse learners and classrooms) is from a guest lecture with Maureen Manning on July 13th in my EDCI 414 course.

Slide from July 13th EDCI 414 guest lecture with Maureen Manning.

Why does this artifact reflect my learning of the objective/goal:

I chose this slide above as my artifact for this goal as it represented UDL in a way I had never seen before. The balance between usability, accessibility and inclusion was represented in a way where there is co-dependence on each concept to make up a UDL learning environment.

What stood out to me in my learning process:

Something that stood out to me about this image specifically was the way that the triangle describes both the ‘Design’ and ‘Universal’ aspects of universal design. Another aspect that stood out to me about this slide and the lecture overall was how everyone can benefit from a UDL classroom.

How this learning may impact my teaching practice in the future:

This is something that I will be implementing into my future practice and have worked already to do so in my practicum experience. I think that creating a learning environment that is equitable, inclusive and flexible is one of the most important jobs of a teacher. There are so many ways to incorporate UDL in the classroom and I look forward to finding out more ways to create a flexible learning environment that is centered around students.
