Reflection 11: EdCamp

Last week I had the privilege to attend the annual EdCamp event hosted by UVic. Normally this event is held in person, but due to the current situation of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the event was held virtually.

This was the first EdCamp event I have ever attended and it was eye opening to see the wealth of knowledge sharing that occurred. Below are the topics that were discussed in multiple breakout rooms over Zoom.

Topics

      • How to Survive your First Practicum
      • Assessment Strategies for the Classroom
      • Implementing Inquiry – Based Learning
      • Indigenization of the BC Curriculum
      • UDL and Inclusion in the Classroom
      • More Topics Presented in Overflow Rooms

I was able to connect with teachers from across BC within the rooms discussing the topics of inquiry-based learning, surviving your first practicum and UDL and inclusive learning. The time shared with teachers, fellow students and educators from across BC was very valuable and allowed for open and free discussion.

The photo below was taken with the digital consent of members through the creation of a photobook break out room. Prior to having access to this room, the conditions of the room were stated that entering the room implied the consent of each person to have their photo taken to be presented online. I found that this was a really innovative way to ensure digital consent was ensured through this virtual EdCamp.

I feel very grateful to Valerie Irvine and Luke Richards for including the EDCI 336 Elementary PDPP cohort in this professional development opportunity.
